I have a similar situation with a 3.64 diff, 5 spd, and 185-60-13 tires. The smaller tires are basically equivalent to using a 3.90 diff ( ~7% more revvy). I find first gear to be too low with this setup. The RPMs just shoot up too quickly to be terribly useful. Unless you're building an engine with little low end torque, I think the 3.64 is probably a better choice, especially if the 3.90 isn't an LSD.
