I've had this problem - on another car. There are two possibilities that come to mind.

1 - the marks are buried in the dirt. Stop the engine, get down in there with some solvent or engine cleaner and clean off the pulleys and block. Find the marks and put something white on the critical place. White-out, nail polish, shoe polish (got some from putting autocross numbers on, don't you?) or white Rust-oleum.

2 - in reality you have the timing so far off that the marks are half-way around the pulley when the light goes off. I've done this one too. It's downright embarrassing.
