Solex idle surging. what to do??? (archive)

Both myself and a friend bought ourselves a 2002 parts car each equiped witht the factory solex. Each of them have a hard time idleing as the idle surges then wants to almost kill.
Mine will rkun the tach up to 4K then want to die. I have gotten in there and if I close the butterfly on the top of the carb it will rev backup and then want to try and die again.
Is there any solutions that I can try to smooth this out
and make it a nice runner?
