Since you're in California, it needs to be able to pass smog inspection. BTW, that is the responsibility of the seller to provide a certified smog inspection document as part of the sale.

If you search the archives on converting automatics to manuals, you'll find some discusion on the lack of foot space for all of the pedals.

To do a 5 speed conversion, is going to cost you probably from $700 to $1500 depending if who does the labor. Factor this into your thinking.

The California '76 besides having all of the smog hardware as the US '75 also had a lower compression engine. I'm not sure if the rear end ratio for the '76 automatic was 3.90:1 as the manual transmission version.
