I had the same problem on my recently purchased 1976. I used the brute force/WD40 method and heard some cracks and pops. Turns out the head rest posts had rusted inside the seat and had become attached to the interior plastic bushings that they slide into. I sanded the posts, painted them and replaced the bushings (60 cents a piece from Max, $1.11 from a dealer). They work great now. Good luck.

: How in the world do push the headrest down on a 75 model seat? The headrest was halfway up when I bought the car, I have tried everything I could think of to push the headrest down or even pull it up, it will not budge.

: Thanks
