i'm tapped out of both now and i've cleaned/buffed the block w/ dremel and compressed air. so i'm going to put my recently rebuilt head onto my block (i think it still has a lot of miles left to it). keep your fingers crossed for me. thanks for the help, even though it wasn't what i'd hoped to hear.
