There isn't anything really wrong with cutting stock springs. It has to do with the way you cut the springs.

If you use a torch, you risk changing the temper of the spring. A hacksaw and eating a box of Wheatie is a much safer proposition.

I never did like the idea of cutting 25 year old springs. If you bought new stock springs and cut them, you'd end up paying about the same amount of money as if you spend the time and found a set of used aftermarket performance springs.
