Last year I removed the engine and transmission together. I'm certainly not a mechanic, but I was able to do the job in 6 hours.

2 suggestions:
If you can get an engine lifts that pivots (rotates, that would benefit you.

I would also recommend removing the distributor (shaft and all). The 2 inches or so of additional clearance would be very beneficial.
