Kevin, Sounds like we're in the same boat (bought the same model a few months ago myself). Beware paying too much attention to the Haynes manual with regards to anything related to emissions. My car had darn near all of the smog stuff removed by previous owners and it still runs fine (I'm fortunate enough to live in a state that doesn't do inspections).

My suggestion is to give the folks at 2002ad a call (their website is www.2002ad.com). They'll be happy to discuss the various options and may be able to refer you to an honest mechnanic near your home.

I'd take Dwight's advice about the shop manual, but also use this board (probably this board more than the manual in some cases) since your car will likely have been modified over the years.

Take care,

-Jack
