Having both an internal and external ballast at teh same time would not be a good thing. It would drop the voltage so low the spark would be very poor. Determine which coil you have then add or remove external ballast as needed.

: The Bosch blue coil has internal an internal resistor, so the external one is no longer required. It will not hurt anything if you leave in in the circuit, but it will be redundant. You will need an ohm-meter to measure the resistance of the coil. 1.5k ohm
: is about what a good blue coil should read at, so I wouldn't worry if you have no OhmMeter.

: BTW: Air gap between the field coil and magnetic rotor is critical with the pertronix.
: Be absolutely certain that the rotor does not come in contact with the pickup, or you can toast your ignitor. I always keep the points and condenser in the glove box, (just in case).

: installing a pertronix ignition today. want to get my 72tii back on the road asap. reading the archives tells me if i have a bosch blue coil i don't need to keep the ballast resistor in line - i'll get a better spark if i take the resistor off line.
