I've searched the archives and bimmers.com, but can't find the info I'm looking for. On my '75, the diff has 2 numbers stamped vertically (one above the other) on the drivers side. The top number is a "7", and the bottom number (which is rotated 90 degrees to the right) is a "5". I know it's not a "1.40"! LOL!

The car turns 4k rpm at 70mph, which makes me think it is a 3.91 instead of a 3.64, but everything I found says that the 3.91 didn't come in the car until '76. Anyone know what it is, and whether it is original?

TIA!
