Replacing the gas tank is a easy job. Just remove the passenger side panel in the trunk. There should be 4 or 5 screws holding it down to the body. When you replace it, also redo the gasketing between the tank and the body with 3M Strip-Calk. Don't use weatherstrip gasketing, it will hold moisture.It's also a good time to check your fuel sender and replacing all of the flex lines that connect the sender to the hard line that disappears into the rear of the car.
Cost of a new tank is about $250. Also a good ideal to blow out the entire gas delivery line from the engine compartment back to the tank.
BTW, do this outside, disconnect the battery, and have a good fire extinguisher handy.
