For reference, I found that putting the nut on backwards got it stuck on real good, so you might just want to use the 2x4, or a heavy soft-faced mallet right on the stub axle.

The stub axle seemed to get "stuck" at 2 points, but just ended up requiring a bit more muscle and a lot more patience. Hope that helps. Good luck with it! Oh, and if you need any advice getting the drum brakes back together I can tell you *everything* you can do wrong.

Scott.

: I'm replacing my rear wheel bearings (and upgrading my rear brakes). I have the 36mm nut, drive flange, backing plate and half shafts disconnected, and have loosened the stub axle (put the nut on backwards, place a scrap of 2x4 over it and take out your hostilities).

: The splined part of the stub axle seems to be hanging on the spacer sleeve when I try to drive it through. The Hayes manual says, punch it through. Am I missing anything??

: Thanks!!
