: After reading the forum for a few days (you guys are really into details)I got more ideas of what to lookout for so I went back to check the black 74 tii again. my orignal take was the condition seemed pretty good,A few small manageable rust spots. The worst was the driver side floor, the carpet has a long rip, and the floor feels spongy. That one worried me. So this time I brought ramps (haven't used these since I sold my 76 02 in 82)I backed up onto the ramps. Oh yea, also popped the trunk boards, tire bracket nut was rusted so I couldn't lift the tire, but the well really didn't look too bad, no apparent rust, the plywood over the gas tank was a bit dry rotted, there was some minor rust on the top of the tank around the fittings. but no big deal.Down below things looked pretty good, I left the car running and it seemed pretty quiet down there. there is a gas leak from a hose connection to what I assume is a pump (3" cylindical item)in front of the tank. No rust in the rear wheel well areas at all, the tail pipe has a patina of rust but no holes that i saw. A 1.5" diameter rust thru under the passenger rear seat that seemed like it might be a base mount of the seat.I drove up the front end. I noticed for the first time that the car has good condition Bosch fog lights. Motor still running,no evidence of oil leaks from the engine. Did I mention the engine idles and revs smoothly without any smoke? There was some fluid around the trans, not much, but some. When I first looked at the car I couldn't get it into gear. I was gently trying to slip into reverse. I thought forgot where reverse was (haven't driven stick since my 68 1600, sold 1980),then I couldn't get it into any gear! and I thought the trans is shot or the linkage is frozen, so I said "screw it" and just jambed it into first, and clunk, it went into gear,I went through all the gears and it seemed to loosen up fine. All other mechanical stuff looks Ok to my illiterate eye. all rubber bushings seem flexible. Anyway the front floor is rusted,a 4" round disc that is shot and from there forward a 1.5" wide strip of rust (right where the carpet is ripped)a little other rust at the base of the drivers wheel well, is the floor tuff to repair? I just had the driver's floor and rocker panel replaced on my '76 2002, passenger side is sound, I knew the guy who did the work from previous work and he charged me 1200$, he also replaced the metal brake lines and did some work around the pedal box.. Anyhow, I did have a previous estimate of over 2000$, again, it included the driver's side rocker panel, it is not cheap, but the rear shock towers are in perfect condition, trunk floor also has no rot through, good luck, make sure it is done right.
