Interesting method. Now I see what you meant about using the center bearing mounts. I just put a hole in the floor on both sides for large bolts and massive washers. Did you have any problem clearing the exhaust? How close is it? What rubber mount did you use?

: Have put in some photos of the mounting for my new 5-speed transmission on Photopoint.

: Based on an idea mentioned for adapting the 5-speed to a 2002, here are some pictures of my 5-speed mounting. The 5-speed mounts need to be a little over 2 inches further back than the standard 4-speed. I didn't want to go in and weld new brackets (would have to remove the carpets, rustproof and paint, etc.), so used the idea of running a couple of supports from the old mounts back to the mounts that hold the drive-line center bearing, then bolting the transmission mount cross member to these supports.

: My supports are light steel angle iron, about 1 ½ X 2 inch about 1/8 inch thick (believe it or not - they are chunks of an old bed frame!) Most of the engine/transmission weight are on the engine mount, to a lot of strength is not required. Measured to length, then trimmed along the edges to fit the contour of the tunnel. Worked perfectly, until my speedo quit! Turns out the speedo cable was bent sharp enough that it failed. Took out the left support, carved a notch for the cable, welded on some added support and put it all back together with another cable. Works great.

: Pictures are one of two supports (left support shown) which are sort-of mirror images of each other (except for the notch). Left one also has some reinforcement added where the notch is because it was getting rather thin.
