: Just had car paint and now need to replace old trunk gasket. The question is - do you split the gasket to get it around the brackets holding the trunk-lid up, or do you take off the trunk-lid and keep the solid piece of gasket in tack?? Any help or suggestions appreciated - thanks. Why remove the trunk lid? All you need to do is detach each side bracket one at a time and reattach once the gasket is on. Be careful with the side bracket because they are spring loaded and can snap up if you are not careful--and can dent your trunk lid. I found that Wurth Rubber Glue is a good product for this job.
