what if the "new" 4 speed grinds, or is about to start grinding. thats a lot of flat on your back under the car to have a tranny fail right after you put it in. (i would consider within six months to a year to be "right after").

so even if i put in another one, i'd still like to open it up and check things if not go ahead and replace synchros. my question still stands: other than the dealer (?), where can i get synchros/gasket kits/ etc.?

anybody bothered to do this?

: How about getting a used 4 speed until you have enough money for the 5 speed conversion.
