: Based on an idea mentioned for adapting the 5-speed to a 2002, here are some pictures of my 5-speed mounting. The 5-speed mounts need to be a little over 2 inches further back than the standard 4-speed. I didn't want to go in and weld new brackets (would have to remove the carpets, rustproof and paint, etc.), so used the idea of running a couple of supports from the old mounts back to the mounts that hold the drive-line center bearing, then bolting the transmission mount cross member to these supports.

: My supports are light steel angle iron, about 1 ½ X 2 inch about 1/8 inch thick (believe it or not - they are chunks of an old bed frame!) Most of the engine/transmission weight are on the engine mount, to a lot of strength is not required. Measured to length, then trimmed along the edges to fit the contour of the tunnel. Worked perfectly, until my speedo quit! Turns out the speedo cable was bent sharp enough that it failed. Took out the left support, carved a notch for the cable, welded on some added support and put it all back together with another cable. Works great.

: Pictures are one of two supports (left support shown) which are sort-of mirror images of each other (except for the notch). Left one also has some reinforcement added where the notch is because it was getting rather thin.

I got my 5-speed mount from Top End Performance. It is a nice piece of work, requires no welding, and positions the output flange at the proper level to avoid strain/rapid wear on the flex coupling. Their web site has a pic of it. www.racetep.com Check it out.
