Sounds as if the starter circuitry is sharing power from the lights some how. Perhaps a short across the two at a relay or something. Does the starter work ok even after the fuses are blown?
Try this to help isolate it. Disconnect the starter wire feed try again. This will allow NO load on the starting circuit. If it the fuse still blows then you have something shorting for sure. Or, you can jumper the starter thus running the starter without using the keyswitch. Otherwise I need more info or a physical inspection.
Peter s: Having a problem with 73 02. Keeps blowing fuse for lights. Have lights and when engine is started, it immediately blows the fuse for lights. Changed out light switch and cannot see fault with dimmer switch. Have not done any other work on electrical system to warrant problem.
: With car parked, engine off, new fuse, lights all work OK. Highs, dims, parking etc. As soon as you hit the starter, blows the fuse.
: Any ideas?
