I hope you're right Mike and I suspect you are. Simple increasing rarity is helping the scenario. There weren't really that many made and we've all got parts from junk yards or parts cars etc.
On the other hand, I think my cheap yet great find is a rarity as well. I hope my car has a nice value when the time comes to sell. Maybe the new 2002 model in 2002 will further help the values of these classic. I suspect however that when all 2002's are smog exempt in the US then this will really help. Can you picture having a late 80's Honda Civic as a 'classic car' in the year 2020? Way too complex for the average home mechanic amongst other things.

: Am I the only one who sees the end of the cheap 02? These cars, Tii and the standard series, are going nowhere but up in price. For all the people who immediately carp, no way, don't pay more than $1500 (or whatever) can we put a "claimer" on your car--you say no way and I can claim you car for the "no way" price. Sounds fair to me. I'll bet there are not many people who are ready to sell their pride and joy for the low prices they proclaim to be a "fair" value for the car.

: I admit I would not buy a car with rust for much money, but the solid California car is a different animal and they will dry up soon.

: Just my "humble" opinion.
