putting in a set of bilsteins in my front struts. reading the archives there are two different opinions. one says to put oil in the strut before you slide in the bilstein. the second says no oil with bilsteins. a seperate concern is if you don't use oil then how do you prevent the shock from ultimately rusting to the inside the strut? that's the way the old ones were on my struts and they were a bear to get out.
Did you get any directions with the set? If not, you can use oil or 100% anti-freeze. I believe the theory is that the oil/anti-freeze transfers the heat to the strut housing and prevents corrosion as you noted.
Anyway, what could it hurt?
