Anything can fit, it depends on how much money you want to spend and how bad you want to gut your car.

Ex US Force jet tester Bill Dryden (he passed away a few years ago) had a 1602 with an M6 engine stuffed in. He had to cut the transmission tunnel and kept only the front skin of the nosepanel to allow for some room. His car was featured in an older issue of European Car.

To do a clean job without cutting the nose panel or rad core support you either have to cut the firewall or use a shorten waterpump. Pete McHenry used to build special shorten waterpump. Nice and elegant. With a lighten flywheel and lighter miscellanous parts, the front end was only 20 lbs heavier.

The M50-52 24 valve engine is longer than the older M20 by a few inches. Just a few inches is alot. So prepare yourself for some hacksaw and torch work.

I believe that the M20 is more than enough.
