I know where the stuff is....and I just realized that the cable is broken.....I just need to know how to manually shut if off for now so I don't fry.....it's the nut in the middle of the valve right?.....which way do I turn it so it's off? I couldn't see the cable b4 b/c since it was broken it was hidden until I moved the lever inside the car. Anyway, any instructions appreciated....there aren't any in my Haynes manual on this subject.

they couldn't POSSIBLY have made it more difficult to service this thing! Like benjo said, that's where it is. my comment is turning it which ever way it will go will shut off the heat (if the valve's OK, and it probably is). It's a 1/4 turn valve, so if it goes, it's going either open or closed or is in between. How do you turn it? no manual in the world could explain this. the valve stem is square nylon w/ a center hole to mount the thing that turns it that the cable is hooked to. so i guess if you get a small socket and keep trying till you find out what size square the valve stem is, you could turn it that way. maybe there's enough room to get in there w/ pliers. don't tear it up, or you will need a new one when you get around to fixing it and i heard $45. the best thing would be to pull the engine-side hose and put a bolt in it and throw a hose clamp on for good measure. then when you want heat again, reconnect it.
I had to replace the little hose between the valve and the fire wall. Yikes! That was not fun.
Later,
John
