I have heard (dont quote me) that the 528 starter will bolt onto an 02. I donno about the 533(?). Try searching the archives for starter or something.

I have a rebuilt starter for my 84 533i that I would like to put in my 76. I was wondering if anyone had an 02 starter out and could count the teeth for me to ensure a I have a match.

I had an opportunity to measure this against an 02 starter and it appeared to be the same, but I forgot to count teeth.
My 533 starter has 9 teeth.
