Mine started leaking under pressure and the wire had broken off the valve long ago. I went to the VW/BMW independent shop and asked for a heater valve. They came out with 2 VW and 1 BMW. They each had a little lever and a mount bracket. I got the BMW ($6) since it looked to have the right I.D. hose fitting. Removed the old valve (rather dificult with the heater core still in the car). Clamped a new hose to the upper core inlet, ran it out into the engine compartment, and sliced in the new anonymous BMW valve. Painted the OPEN position with red paint so I could tell which position was ON. Now just lift hood and adjust.

No leaks,
Richard
