First time attempting to change struts, I have the spring compressors and wondering the manuals say to detach the wishbone, detach the track rod arm from the spring/damper strut, besides compressing the spring, taking loose the upper strut mount and detaching the brake caliper and tieing it up, are the first two steps necessary, are there any short cuts without having to take a wad of stuff loose or is every step pretty necessary to change the strut cartidge?

Thanks
Ron

I have done it without the first two steps, just pry down with a good lever bar. You might want to detach the Pittman arm from the outer tie rod end to enable access to the 3 bolts that hold the strut to the Pittman arm. Be sure to resafety these bolts with stainless steel safety wire, not bailing wire. Safety wire is available at most speed shops and also through Aircraft Spruce and Specialty.
