I'm in the Old Dominion, too. There is no point in fighting HOW you got caught, so here is what you do: Take your car someplace to have the speedometer calibrated. Almost all speedos are off, and you need to prove that yours is plus/minus 5mph. In an old car that isn't hard. The idea is is get the charge reduced to less than 10mph over. Then, BEFORE your court date (you can do it after, but the judge likes to see initiative), sign up and take one of those court approved defensive driving courses. You'll find them in the yellow pages. Take the certificate of completion with you to the court. Show the court both the speedo calibration and the course certificate. You'll have it dismissed and put on a year's good behavior. Then, call my insurance agent who has the best, cheapest, and most liberal plans anywhere.

I just got a speeding ticket in my '02. It's the first one in a number of years. I also own a sportbike and I'm afraid it will bump my insurance up too much. I ahve never fought a icket in court before but I think this one deserves a good fight. I got clocked at 58 in a 45. I live in VA and someone said that cops are not supposed to park on private land to set a speed trap, this county deputy was in a car wash parking lot when he got me. Is this true? Is it worth going to court for. I realise that I broke the law and I hate to be a weasel but man I don't want to pay big time insurance rates. Please help w/ any tips or advise.
TIA, J.B.
