OK. Here's what I know. The coil-over suspension on my 73tii was done in 1994 by Bavarian Rennsport for the previous owner. The package boasted "custom-valved Bilsteins". I had a brief discussion with Bill Holmes awhile back and asked about this set-up. Apparently the strut housings were shortened and some shorter Bilsteins were used. They had been sent to the factory for the kind of racing valving that, as Bill stated, "makes them stiffer than shit".

Great. Now, one of them is squishy and the oil in it is dripping out. Several questions:

1. Does anyone know about this set-up? What is the usual application for this model of strut insert? (It might be a VW Rabbit or something.)

2. Does Bilstein live up to the famous lifetime warrantee, and does it apply to this kind of specially valved unit? How tough is it to get action on this?

I'll be contacting Bavarian Rennsport, but probably not until Monday. Hoping to gain some insight before then.

Thanks a lot!
