To make a good decision you need to know more than the engine specs. I assume by engine specs you mean compression.

To research, search the archives here for buying a car, look at www.bimmers.com, buy the books, search the 2002 web ring and then find a mechanic familiar with the car to look over the good ones you find to make a final decision.

You will learn a lot about rust.
