My 74 02 died a few blocks from my house a couple hours ago. Car was running great, I came to a stop sign and it died. The guages on the dash (including gas) don't register any readings at all. The only light that comes on is the electrical charge (red) light. The radio, flasher all come on, but I get no juice to the starter at all. Bizzare, no sounds at all when I turn the key. Yes the fan belt is stilll on, the battery connections are tight, battery is less than a year old. I have attempted to jump the car and nothing happens when I turn the key with jumper cables hooked up. Any ideas as to what my electrical gremlins are?

Check ground wire from alternator to engine block. Also check battery ground wire (maybe two straps)to engine chassis/engine block. My alternator ground wire was broken, and symptoms were similar to yours. But, I was able to jump car to start.
