Just did this on mine, and they are supposed to snap into place. Not that it really happened that way though.....

I was told to put on the whole top "leg" (along roofline) and "roll" it down onto the drip rail. That worked, but then the part along the pillar rail had to be twisted as I rolled that part on. One side worked pretty well, but the other side didn't stay down real well. I fashioned some small wood blocks to fit in and outside of the chrome strip, and used channel lock pliers on the blocks to crimp in place. Not perfect results, but no one else looking at it has noticed.

If I were to do it again, I would probably try rolling the pillar leg portion on first, and then working it on along the roofline towards the back of the car. Reasoning is that the pillar part needs to be tight to prevent it from pulling loose at speed, and also needs to be tight to keep the door from catching on it.

Luckily, my local BMW dealership ordered them for me with a BMWCCA discount, so they weren't terribly expensive if I messed up (about $25 per side).

Anyone know where I can get or what I can use to install new chrome drip rail strips?
