What causes the smoke when slowing down?
How can I fix it?
'75 2002, Weber carb.

Worn valve seals are the problem. But why are the valve seals worn? Probably worn valve guides and/or valve stems (maybe). Depends on how many miles and how well the engine has been maintained. If there are a lot of mi. on the head, this is probably the problem and just installing new seals will only last for a short period of time.

It should be possible to change valve seals without pulling the head. By introducing compressed air into the cylinder and removing the springs while the valves are closed, the seals should be able to be replaced. I've never done this but if you know a good mechanic, he might be able to do this for you and save some $. Maybe someone else on the board could advise on this procedure.
