I have those never replace just clean and oil air filters. What do you do with these things... First of all how do you clean them, and second, what type of oil do you soak them with and how much oil do you soak them with. Last, are these better than just buying air filters when it is time?
Thanks.

K and N makes a cleaner in a squirt bottle and air filter oil in an aerosol can. Available and most high performance auto stores or 4x4 parts stores. I just wash mine out in solvent in a parts washer and blow out with compressed air and re-oil.

Putting in my 4 cents: K&N is very specific about saying you should only use their Water-based cleaner (but I use Simple Green) and rinse in gentle stream of tap water...not a strong spray and never blow them dry. This is because the cotton gauze is very weak when it's wet and that is what does the work in these filters, you risk blowing it away. They suggest you let it air dry, and I don't substitute anything for their oil on their filters, I use a foam filter oil on foam filters. FWIW,You might want to search some other archives for an article by Steve Conforti (the famous aftermarket chip genius) who tested K&Ns against a stock BMW paper filter in a very controlled lab test. He concluded that they flow better than paper when freshly oiled and clean, but quickly become much worse than paper when dirty. (This resulted in much controversy, so take it with a grain of salt, and please let's don't repeat it...please)
