I'm told K&N makes their own oil for treating the filters. That said, I read a tip recently for getting good coverage without wasting the oil.

Simply find a ziplock bag big enough to fit the filter in, put in a little bit of oil, and roll the filter around until the whole thing is coated. Like marinating a steak, but maybe not as tasty.
