Checked belt tension and cables at batt & ground. Seems o.k. there. Doesn't get discernably different lights on or off, revs up or down.

Many thanks in advance and probably a stupid question but what does 'eom' mean?

If you've done everything else suggested, the best thing to do if you don't have a working knowledge of the charging system is to have a shop run a check on the charging system. They can determine if the problem is alt., reg., or batt. You probably have a bad alt (blown diode). If you need a new alt., spend a few extra bucks and go with a 65 or 80 amp upgrade with an internal regualator which will get rid of your current external voltage regulator. If this is the case and the search function on this subject still doesn't work, repost and we can help you with this upgrade.
