Haynes says pack space, insert bearing, then work tallow into fiber washer and put that in, etc. Feh, even if I did that, the sealed bearing Paul sold me wouldn't care. The one I took out didn't have any grease or tallow packing and it was in fine shape until I pulled it and destroyed the dust seals. If I had known that I wouldn't have taken it out in the first place, but who can tell? So anyway, at this point I am figuring that the Haynes book is seriously dated and that the new ball bearing is permanently prelubed. Sound likely? Tell me I'm wrong before I reinstall the trans, please.
