FYI, it is NOT necessary to remove the dash to work on the clock, if you're reasonably nimble you should be able to reach thru the glove box opening and undo to knurled nuts that hold the clock in place. Piece of cake.

Earlier clocks were mechanical, can be opened and cleaned (sounds like a real PITA). Problem is, you'll have to do this again if you're planning to keep the car.

'74's have different clocks (says "Moto Meter). Apparently these can't be fixed (MacCartney describes the earlier clock in the Restoration Guide). I got North Hollywood Speedo to put my old clock face and bezel on a new VDO quartz unit. It's been working perfectly for a year and a half, and still matches the other gauges, too. Cost me $150 or so, though. Ouch.
