If you're not racing, you're probably not driving at 6k+ rpm very often. In these "lower" rev ranges, the performance of properly adjusted points is good. For high-rpm racing, electronic setups provide a more consistent, more powerful spark.

If you're not concerned about high-rpm, the other real consideration is tuning and the neglect factor. Points will rarely fail, but to get the most out of them you have to keep on top of them. I replace mine about every 5000 miles or so, if needed. Sometimes I just hit them with a file and reset them, rather than replacement. If you'd rather be able to throw the thing together and forget about it, the electronic setups are for you. Although failure rates for good electronic setups are also low, they can fail without warning, which is unusual for points. Points usually perform worse and worse as time goes on, then quit working altogether (the car refuses to start one morning).

I've been debating on changing over to a electronic ignition instead of the points that I have now. I wondering what a good setup is. My car has 2 dual throat side draft webers 40 DCOE, header, high perf. cam, 8mm plug wires, need to know what a electronic ignition system that has a weekend/daily autocross/driving setup would run, what parts I would need. Thanks for all suggestions.

Matthew
