The cylinder head rocker shafts have allen head bolts on each end that thread in to the shaft. I have one end that has nothing and isn't even threaded. Are these some sort of oil way? The reason I am asking is I dinged one of mine up taking it out and the threads are messed up. Is this a big deal? Why are these fittings there? If there is fluid running thru the shafts I wil re-tap the threads but if there is nothing to worry about, I may leave it alone. Any help is appreciated.
There is definitely fluid running through the shafts. Oil, my friend. The rear of the intake shaft is supposed to be open. The other end is plugged and so are both ends of the exhaust shaft. The oil leaks out the shafts through holes along the length to oil/ lubricate inside the rocker arms to keep them from galling themselves. The open end is to lubricate the distributor gear and the oil sender at the back of the head. Don't change the design or parts will suffer. New shafts aren't all that expensive. O==00==O
