is seek out a local 02 nut who has done the rebuild before. believe me there are many, many of these people around. even if they havent rebuilt a M10, possibly something else (I have rebuilt, among other things, a total of three VW watercooled four-bangers, as well as an assist on an aircooled VW Type IV motor destined for a street-rocket 914. One way to find these people is to simply find them parked somewhere, and put your card or a note under the windshield scraper.

ps it is not that complex. you will want to do it right, which can cost a little money. (up to $1000 or more if you need a lot of new parts, machining work done). another thing to try is looking for a good M10 from a parts car or boneyard. all you need is the shortblock (for the main oilburning issue, you might also need new valve guides, but those are *relatively* easy/cheap to replace). this could run you as little as $200 or less, depending on where you get it. a complete, running longblock with decent compression goes for around $500. good luck! check the bimmers.com/ parts for sale page.

ok i am not going for the engine. it's the 1980 fuel injected bad news brown engine. down to plan B. an engine rebuild. to save money, that i may not have, i am goin to take this on myself. how hard is this. i am pretty sure i can do it, but i dont have the tool to pry that cam pieces apart. i am figuring i have to get new pistons... is this true? any out there with some tech knowledge let me know. i have been taking giant leaps in knowledge with your help.
