the 02 website has a good run down of what to look for. rust is a killer so be careful. it gives a rundown on that. in termns of engine. drive it and make sure there is not too much smoke. you should try to turn the engine with out having it started. listen to the engine turn. if you hear more than the sliding of the pistons, like scraping and wierd cruntching, then you may be due for a new engine. that may be something you dont want to deal with. i am doing that now.
as far as price goes, i am in san francisco, and there are a lot more 02's out here then back there i am guessing. i payed $1600 for mine, but i put a different heater box, big brake upgrade, sanded the spare tire well and painted it, and did some minor electical work. if the car is nice, i guess i would pay about $2000-3000, but i am a thrifty guy. i am not too sure what other guys would think. check out the 02 website. it may help you jore than i have.
