I personally like Valvoline 20w-50 regular, nonsynthetic. Every engine with high mileage I've had has consumed less oil with the Valvoline than it did with Castrol. I'm not sure I'd use synthetic on an engine with older seals, as others have complained of leaks developing. Stay away from Slick 50. It has teflon in it. The teflon sticks to the cylinder walls of your engine--as it's supposed to--but eventually dirt and contaminants stick to the teflon and don't get drained out with your oil when it's changed.
