is there a gasket between the transmission and the engine? i think that is where my oil leak is coming from. the engine i bought has a slight leak and the may be it. the oil seems to be coming from there. i have crawled under the car when on some small jack stands and poked around, but i cant pin point the leak. is this seems like it could be it let me know. i am going to replace lots of gaskets anyhow, but i thought i would ask just in case.

More than likely its your rear main seal or the oil pan gasket. It could also be your exhaust manifold studs or the valve cover gasket dripping down
The 72 my friend just got was leaking like crazy from the front main seal, and was dirty all the way back so you might want to just clean it really good and then check to see where the leak is originating from.
good luck, Brian
