I thought the same, but it was the oil studs leaking and I didn't see the oil dripping down the motor...

While under the car, remove the inspection plate from the bottom of the transmission. It's a vertical, half-moon looking plate attached to the transmission bell housing that, when removed, reveals the bottom of the flywheel. If the flywheel has goo on it, your leak is either the rear main engine seal or the transmission front seal. Either of these will require pulling the trans to replace seals.

The problem I had, that I thought was the engine seal, turned out to be oil leaking down from the back of the head. Glad I didn't pull the trans to replace seals that weren't even leaking!!

Other potential sources of oil were mentioned in earlier posts: Exhaust studs, distributor housing, head gasket, etc.

Good luck and happy motoring!
