Yikes, having just purchased my 02 yesterday I seem to find myself the owner of 2 of them now. At an autocross today I mentioned the new accquisition and one of the guys mentioned his father had a 76 with strong mechanicals but bad body that I could have if I picked it up. Cant turn down a parts car! On other fronts after going over the 02 today here is the bad stuff (and yes I knew what I was getting into) the clunk noise is definitely U-joints. Rot is the big fiend, rear strut towers were patched previously, bad job but after grinding it all out the original damage is still very minor and easily fixable ( I weld) The spare tire well is swiss cheese but that doesnt seem like a hard fix. Worst damage is front frame rail (yes I knew before I bought it and price reflected it ) Its fairly rotten but I have been involved in the repair of worse. I suppose if I had no welding equipment I would consider it a total loss but I think there is still hope. My goal is to make it strong, not necessarily pretty or factory original. The corrupt section will probably be completely removed and heavy gauge box steel welded in its place.
The good stuff...interior is beautiful. Rest of body is very clean and straight. Runs strong. Lots more to come. All advice gladly welcomed.
