The seal actually seals the pulley end. Once it fell off, you had no seal and that's where the oil came out of. It sounds like the nut came loose and finally worked it's way off causing your pulley to go next. Just put it back on and torque it. Try some locktite just for safety. You might want to go ahead and replace the seal since the pulley is off. Oh yeah, check your radiator for damage.

Today my main pulley FELL OFF MY CAR!! Just got the new carb installed yesterday, car ran great then this happens.

I was on my way out my driveway, a very long one, when i heard a noise under the car. I thought it was a branch so I backed up to free it. WHen I backed up, I saw a small trail of oil. Opened the hood, and saw the bottom pulley was loose, no bolt, and the belt was off. A small amount of oil was coming out of end of crank. I drove car very gingerly back to the house. Almost at house, I heard the pulley come off. I guess it was at 1400 rpm or so. It ran off into the woods and hasnt been seen since. I have a pulley from a donor car.

My question: Was the oil just from the pulley not being tight against the seal or maybe just out of balance by being loose? I hope so. BTW I have never touched this bolt and I will retorque it to specs.

Thanks
