Are you talking about the thing connected to the exhaust manifold by some sort of braided hose? If so, I just removed mine. I couldn't get the fitting on the exhaust side loose, and I was replacing the ex. mani. gasket with a heat shield, so---I cut the braided pipe near the ex. manifold, un-bolted the filter doohickey under the intake mani., removed the alternator, removed the radiator (I had to replace it anyway), and slid the whole contraption out the front. My bro helped--so Chris, if I forgot anything please post it.

P.S. This could be just the excuse you need to put on a 38/38. "Well, I have to remove the intake to get the filter off, so I might as well hog out the mani. to make the carb more effecient, and if I am going to do that, I might as well put on a 38/38, and..."
