Look at the engine block SN, behind the starter motor, near the trans bellhousing. That number is the same as the chassis number that the engine was originally installed in. If the number matches a 1600 series, see if it matches the number on the plate on the right side near the top strut mount.

My new project is a yellow '71 2002...or so I thought. It has no lower body trim, and according to one schematic--I was re-connecting the electrical--it's a 1600. According to the Haynes manual it's a typical 2002.

How can I tell, other than the vin#, which on my registration, I suspect, is wrong.

I have the McCartney book and will check the vin on the body, but anybody have any other info?
