Mike McCartney estimated in his 96 book (page 95) that the germans have been scrapping about 30,000 a year since the end of the 70's and there are only about 10,000 left in the US, 5,000 in the UK and 5,000 in Japan. I would think that we need to salvage every chassis we can and only part them out and kill them where absolutely neccessary.
The more cars on the road, the more demand for new parts and therefore more will be economically manufactured by the specialists and available to all 02ers. This one appears to look okay from here unless there are savage rust gremlins underneath we cannot see.
Once a parts car is gone, it's gone for good.
Save the 02!
