The trusted 02.
If you have read my previous post this weekend I was looking at a 72 Alfa Romeo GTV in NJ. Before I start I think that the Alfa is one if not the most bellissima car ever made.
Now I left NYC on Saturday morning and drove to NJ to see the car in question. On the way there got into a little race (nothing crazy) with one of those Audi TT coupes. My 2'500 dollars definitely look better on the road. Well I got to the Alfa and the car looked very well from 5 feet away. On a closer look the bottom had rust all around and the car inside smelled of humidity. The owner tried to fire the motor. The thing turned and it even tried to keep idle but with no luck. Battery is in the trunk. So now I am not even considering the trade (rust, smell and no idle) but the owner tries very hard to unload this thing. Offers me a 40% discount. Now if I had a shop and had any idea what I was looking at I may have thought about it. I am sure an alfista could use all the parts and the motor (e.mail me off the board to find out details if interested). Now the end of the story: I am there with my girlfriend (who knows more about cars than me, and puts up with all of it) she looks at the license plate, at the last time the car was registered, smells the car inside and walks away. Now I feel a little strange I keep talking to the owner and then I say goodbye and get back to the 02 where the much smarter member of the duo was waiting for me. Well she tells me that the car was last registered in Oklahoma, and last inspected the year before the big floods they had there. I had nothing to say and we went to IKEA to get some things for her place.
I was happy never the less I was still driving my trusted 02 and had my smart girlfriend in the car with me ( and lots and lots of staff in the back seat).
Maybe one day I will get an Alfa but I will make sure to bring my girlfriend to see the car first.

Ciao , m
